Three pathogens (organisms) account for 80% of cases of bacterial meningitis:
Neisseria meningitis (meningococcus)
Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)
Streptococcus pneumonia (pneumococcus)

There are vaccines for all three of these pathogens, with the Hib vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine recommended schedule being primarily a 4-dose series at 2, 4, 6, and 15 months, and the meningococcal vaccine recommended first dose being given prior to entering 7th grade.
